Madhoo, cousin of Hema Malini BJP MP, who had portrayed lead roles in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil cinema in the 90s in a media interaction reveals that she is willing to play her Phool Aur Kaante co-star Ajay Devgn’s mother.

Earlier Madhoo has portrayed as an apsara [fairy] in Shakuntalam with Samantha [Ruth Prabhu] So when she plays as an actor, actually she enjoys the liberty and freedom of being an actor today.

She added that in the 90s, they romanced, sang, danced. But now, with OTT, stories and content, she thinks that is kind of broken away. A lot of great opportunities comes for every actor.

She further continued, today she is thinking as an actor if she gets a role where they say you have to look older than Ajay, and play his mother’s role, she would take it as a challenge as an actor. If she gets a role where she has to play any yesteryear lead actor’s mother’s role, she would look at it as a challenge and not as a sexist, controversy or that kind of a conversation.

After making her debut in Bollywood in 1991 opposite Ajay Devgn in the Kuku Kohli’s directorial ‘Phool Aur Kante’, she featured in ‘Roja’, ‘Diljale’, ‘Hum Hain Bemisaal’, ‘Elaan’ and more. But, in the late 90s, Madhoo disappeared from the big screen saying that it was a conscious decision as she was tired of playing romantic roles.

In the midst of the 90s, action films and heroes dominated the scene, and her roles primarily involved dancing, delivering a few romantic lines, and shedding tears with parents.

While she enjoyed dancing, she realized that she was deeply unhappy with this shift from films like ‘Roja’ and she ecognised that her true passion lay in being an artist and doing meaningful work.

On the workfront, Madhoo will next be seen in ‘Kartam Bhugtam’, a thriller that also stars Shreyas Talpade and Vijay Raaz.
