Ranjeet recalls Parveen was “heartbroken” when replaced by Jaya Bachchan in ‘Silsila’
Yash Chopra’s directorial ‘Silsila’ was Amitabh Bachchan’s last film with Rekha.
Interestingly Amitabh and Rekha emerged as a popular onscreen couple with films like ‘Mr. Natwarlal’, ‘Do Anjaane’ and ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’.
Once Rekha over an interview with a film magazine claimed that she saw Amitabh’s wife, actor Jaya Bachchan, break down while watching her “love scenes” with Amitabh in Prakash Mehra’s directorial ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’.
Rekha added that she was looking at the entire Bachchan family through the projection room when they came to see the trial show of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Jaya was sitting in the front row and he Amitabh and his parents were in the row behind her. They couldn’t see her as clearly as she could. And amidst their love scenes, she could see tears rolling down her face.
Ranjeet had opened up about his equation with Parveen Babi and revealed that she was upset after she was removed from ‘Silsila’. Parveen Babi passed away in January 2005.
“She (Parveen Babi) was his dear friend… she was all alone. She was a beautiful lady. Always smiling and we used to call her ‘fawada‘ because of her teeth… Once she was very upset and she was crying. He asked her ‘What happened Parveen?
The unit of the film were in Kashmir. and he doesn’t mind quoting because it’s a fact. In, Silsila Parveen Babi was the original heroine but she was asked to leave. And because of a gimmick controversy, they cast Rekha and Jaya Bhaduri in the film otherwise it was Parveen and Rekha.
