As per IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced over Maharashtra two days before its normal arrival date of June 11.

The IMD predicted heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rain over south Konkan, Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka on June 9 and 10.

IMD had issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg, an orange alert for Ratnagiri, and a yellow alert for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad.

According to IMD, there are chances of extremely heavy rainfall (more than 204mm in 24 hours) over coastal Karnataka, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra till Monday and heavy showers will continue over these regions amidst the week ahead.

These areas will remain under an ‘orange’ alert till Tuesday, as the monsoon activity is likely to continue through the week ahead.

Meanwhile, as per officials on Sunday, Mumbai and its neighbouring areas received heavy rains in the last 24 hours, bringing down the mercury and providing relief to residents from the hot and humid weather.
