Shilpa Shinde recounts her truth turns controversial
Actress Shilpa Shinde is best known as TV’s original Angoori bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai,
Shilpa was last seen in a cameo role in Maddam Sir, and ironically there was an sudden end to her track. Nevertheless Shilpa gears up to stage a comeback to television after over a year with the 14th season of Fear Factor
Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Speaking over the gap amid projects, she articulates that people often ask her why she haven’t been working to which she responds that she intends to work, but she needs to get an offer that truly excites her. There’s a common belief that once you step away from the screen, you are out. However, by God grace, that hasn’t happened to her. As an actor, she feels fortunate not to have an expiry date, because she feels content with what she has done and never panics to panic. She chooses to be selective of her work, and for that, patience is key. Some people take up any project that comes their way, but as an artiste, but why should she accept everything offered to her.
Shilpa seems to get involved in controversy with almost every project she has taken up. Whether it was her exit from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai a few years ago, her remark that the judges should think before commenting” amidst her stint on Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa in 2022, or her clash with Gulki Joshi amidst Maddam Sir, she has hit the headlines. Ask her on this, and she says, “Controversy happens and cannot be created. The problem is that her truth turns controversial. As far as Jhalak is concerned, she just said what she felt. It was a normal message from her end that snowballed into a controversy. Truth is bitter and she feels that people are intimated to her.
Notedly, her portrayal of Angoori bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai remains a landmark in her career, and her sudden exit in 2016 led to much speculation. In hindsight, does she regret her departure from the show? She doesn’t have any regrets and look at it positively. Had she stayed, she would have continued playing the same role and wouldn’t have explored other opportunities. TV keeps you glued to it. Apart from certain characters which becomes iconic they can’t be recreated.
