Saira Banu, a cinematic icon and good friend to the actor, took a trip down memory lane as she shared nostalgic recollections of her collaboration with the legendary Manoj Kumar.
Taking to her Instagram handle she penned down a heartwarming note, remembering the time around that they worked together. She wrote in the caption, “Soon after her first film she received many offers amongst which was “SHAADI”. Here for the first time she shared screen space with Manoj Kumar. She was a very shy youngster and had this peculiar habit of really being awkward on the sets while doing romantic numbers.
Manoj is very understanding and would quietly just move away from the set while her solo shots were being filmed. Both Saira and Manoj were of very few words but found comfort working together.
Saira Banu revealed a touching detail on the deep admiration Manoj Kumar held for her late husband, Dilip Kumar. She shared that Manoj Kumar looked upon Dilip Kumar his idol and the two shared a close bond. “Manoj’s idol has been Sahib(Dilip Kumar). They were close and would always venture to make different types of Omeletes, flying kites, and indulging in “Sher-O-Shayari”. There is a big joke, when the duo featured in “AADMI”, Manoj assumed the gestures associated with Dilip Kumar after which Dilip Kumar amidst peels of laughter told Manoj Kumar that “Yaar Tu Meri Tarah Shots Kar Le, Main Kuch Aur Tarika Nikaltaa Hoon”!! Ha Ha!!”

Saira also shared a heartwarming anecdote on Manoj Kumar’s unwavering loyalty amidst the making of Purab Aur Paschim. When she fell ill on set, he expressed his unwavering support by stating that he would rather shelve the entire film than replace her.
She further wrote, “Dilip Kumar and she had decided that she would not be continuing with her film career after their marriage Shaadi but Behold! She had signed “PURAB AUR PASCHIM” before marriage, wherein she played a Westernised young girl against Manoj who declared of thal shelve his project if Sahib did not allow her to work in it. Later on in the film she took ill and Dilip Kumar told Manoj Kumar that they will never misunderstand if he replaces her but Manoj committed that he would rather shelve the film than replace her. She concluded saying she will always respect him for this magnanimous gesture.
