The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai on Thursday had issued orange alert for the financial capital. Educational institutions were shut for the day, while flooding several key areas added to commuter woes.

RMC predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in city and suburbs and gusty winds reached 60-70 kmph

The IMD alerted Mumbaikars at 7:00 am suggesting “moderate spells of rain” at isolated places amidst the next 3-4 hours.

An update revealed that Tansa Lake, one of the lake supplying water to the Mumbai, started overflowing at around 4:16 PM on Thursday. Three gates of the Tansa Dam were opened to release water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. The full storage capacity of Tansa Lake is 14,508 crore liters.

Powai lake is filled to the brim following heavy rains in the region from the last couple of days.

Taking to X, the BMC stated that the weather and rainfall in Mumbai were normal at present, allowing life in the metropolitan city to proceed smoothly.

On Thursday, around eleven flights were cancelled and ten diverted after heavy rains reduced visibility significantly. Operations at the Mumbai airport ware halted twice after runway visibility dropped to 300 metres.
