The entertainment industry has been churning out outstanding films across myriad topics, generating huge audience appreciation. Some of these films have accomplished cult status, deeply echoing with viewers. One such hit film is Ravi Chopra’s directorial under BR Films banner “Baghban” a family drama featuring
Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. Notedly, the 2003 released film left an indelible mark on audiences.

Initially, Bollywood’s only ‘Dream Girl’ Hema Malini(now BJP MP from Mathura Constituency for third successive term) recounted on desiring to decline the role offered to her.

In an interview Hema Malini had gone on to reveal that it was at her mother Jaya Chakravarthy’s
behest that she agreed to do the film. She further went on to add that prior to the mahurat of Baghban, BR Chopra met and told her that he wants her to play the role flawlessly just like he had wanted to. He narrated the story to her and she articulated that it was his blessings because of which the film did well. Even as of today, people talk about that film.

She reminisced that when she was hearing the story from Ravi Chopra, her mother was seated beside her. After he left, she
(Hema) said, that Chopra saab wanted her to play motherly role to four grown up sons and how could she do it? Her mother said, ‘no, no. She must do it as the story is good and interesting. The rest was history. The film turned out to be a blockbuster success at the box-office.

Baghban was an emotional tale of an elderly couple, essayed by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, who have been married for 40 years. After the character of Amitabh Bachchan retires, they reunite with their four sons to discuss who will support them. None of the sons want to take care of both parents, which causes both of them to live separately. The film sparked a stir among the audience, and the makers revealed that many people were impacted by it.

Apart from Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, the film also featured Aman Verma, Samir Soni, Saahil Chaddha, and Nasir Khan as sons and above all Salman Khan in a cameo. The film was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore and went on to gross around Rs 41 crore at the box office at that time around.
