Govinda rejects biopic on Marathi Cinema Legend Dada Kondke
One need to be destined and have the privilege to take on a biopic on a legendary figure. But not many go for it.
Recenty renowned actor Govinda declined to take up a biopic on the Marathi film legendary actor Dada Kondke.
Undeniably, actor-filmmaker Dada Kondke is a Marathi cinema legend. For those unversed, he was the king of raunch; in other words, he introduced the Marathi audience to sex comedies. Dada or elder brother as he was affectionately called had a slew of super-hit films through the 60/70s. The USP of his films were double meaning dialogues and superb ` catchy’ songs also with double-meaning lyrics which made him a household name in Maharashtra. He holds a Guiness Book record for nine silver jubilees hits..Songadya and Ekta Jeev Sadashiv are just two of the many hits of this man, who once caused a stampede when he entered the Times of India press room because of his popularity with the Maharashtrian community.
The reason for bringing him before tne audience and fans is because a leading film corporate is looking to make a bilingual biopic on Dada Kondke (Hindi and Marathi). The lead role was offered to actor-politician Govinda known for his perfect comic-timing, and has always shown a penchant for naughty comedies in the 80s and 90s
Govinda also bears a slight resemblance to Dada Kondke and he would prove the perfect choice for the lead. However, we hear Govinda has turned down the role.
Not willing to give up the team backing the film has been trying their level best to persuade Govinda to sign the dotted line. But Govind is reportedly adamant that he will not do it.
As per a trade source.he has not given the makers any reason for his refusal.One hears as far as the makers are concerned, whoever else comes on board, will only be second best to Govinda because he is, by any stretch of imagination the best choice to play the Marathi cinema legend.
