Aamir Khan-Kiran Rao screen film Laapataa Ladies for SC judges spouses and Registry members
The court of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) was in for a surprise today, Saturday afternoon in the visit of Bollywood’s “Mr.Professional” Aamir Khan.
Even as judges and dignitaries from other countries are often found seated in the CJI’s court to observe court proceedings, it is for the first time that someone from India’s entertainment industry was spotted watching the court hearings.
He was none other than Bollywood’s”Mr.Professional
Aamir Khan. He wasn’t just there to watch lawyers showing off their argumentative skills. Infact, he was there on an invitation from Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
The CJI welcomed Khan, who was seated in the front row to witness the post-lunch proceedings.
Amidst smiles, the CJI said
that Aamir Khan is here with ex-wife Kiran Rao to screen their produced film ‘Laapata Ladies’ and that he doesn’t want a stampede in court.
Attorney General (AG) for India R Venkataramani then quipped,
that it’s a star-studded court today.
As the CJI laughed, Senior Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi in a lighter vein remarked, that he is for sure he (AG) is referring to the lordship.
The screening was organised by the Communication Division of the Supreme Court, on the CJI’s initiative for all Supreme Court judges, their spouses and members of the Registry.
The screening was held in the auditorium of the top court’s administrative building complex.
The initiative is part of the CJI’s year-round gender sensitisation programme at the Supreme Court. The idea for the same came from his wife, Kalpana Das, after she and her staff had watched the film.
