Aanand L Rai’s “Tanu “Weds Manu 3 on the cards?
Buzz is doing the rounds that after the big box-office success of the Anand L Rai’s directorial “Tanu Weds Manu”, and the sequel to it, now fans are anticipating for “Tanu Weds Manu” 3.
Notedly, in 2011, Aanand L Rai gave his first career hit with Tanu Weds Manu, featuring
R. Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut. The film set in heartland India, captured the love story amid two unlikely characters. However, in 2015, the sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, was released and went on to gross the highest opening weekend collections at the
box-offfice of a female-led film in India until 2019. But, obvious, fans eagerly await the announcement of a third installment.
However, Rai setting the record straight, articulated that a third part wasn’t on the cards as he was “done with the characters.” But it seems the story of Tanu and Manu isn’t over yet.
In an exclusive chat with a news channel, the director revealed that “definitely” plans are afoot for the franchise. “Tanu Weds Manu is a kind of franchise that demands a part three.
The director also shared that the reason being, those characters looked much beautiful, and were preformed by Madhavan and Kangana and the characters became a little bigger than the story itself.
Rai further disclosed that there was no initial plan to make a franchise out of Tanu Weds Manu; the sequel was only decided after its success.
Tanu Weds Manu was wrapped very well. But the characters were eager to return and that’s precisely why we were able to create another story.
It was last year that Kangana confirmed that she is a part of Tanu Weds Manu 3. However, Rai clarified that the story isn’t locked yet. “With Tanu Weds Manu Returns, they introduced a new character, Datto. These characters are all asking for a third part. The minute they have a great story.that Tanu, Manu, and Datto deserve they will go for it.
But, Rai also goes on to reveal that he is really in search for a unique man-woman relationship. The dynamics in Tanu Weds Manu were different from Raanjhanaa, just as Raanjhanaa was different from Atrangi Re, and Atrangi Re is very different from Haseen Dillruba. As a director and producer, I feel the need to explore a new love story each time. I search for a certain kind of edginess. In Tanu Weds Manu, I showed a girl who drinks and smokes, and as a director, I didn’t judge her—and that’s why my audience didn’t judge her,” he pointed out.
He added that the idea is to bring a new story and a new relationship to celluloid, something that hasn’t been captured yet. That search is always on. When people say ‘Aanand L Rai film,’ he really doesn’t don’t know what that means. The only thing is to be real and honest with his films and he believes that honesty and pulse are the texture of his films. He isn’t making any attempts to impress himself, but, just wants to be happy with his stories. That happiness is how he would describe the texture of his cinema.
