Rani Mukherji heads YRF’s
third instalment of the film
Following YRF’s “Mardaani’ clocking 10 years of its release the production house announces the Mardaani franchise’s third installment
with Rani Mukerji.
The third instalment will be Rani Mukerji‘s second innings in Bollywood. Way back in 2014, when the actress staged a comeback to the big screen as a cop in Mardaani, she sure enough left the audience overwhelmed. Now with the film having clocked a decade of its release, YRF revisits Rani’s strong portrayal and Shivani Shivaji Roy.
Nailed as the biggest solo-female-led film, Mardaani’s second installment was released in 2019. Five years after Mardaani 2 the makers shared a video on Thursday 22 August that the next installment of Mardaani is arriving soon.
Unlike the earlier two films, the Rani’s character in the third instalment is expected to be feisty.
Although both the earlier parts of Mardaani fared decently at the box office, the first installment had collected close to Rs 60 crores worldwide and it fared better in Mardaani 2 than the first one, grossing more than Rs 67 crores worldwide.
Back in 2014, Mardaani found a lot of critical acclaim, many opined that the film revolutionized the portrayal of women as cops, considering how it is a male-dominated field. Many people within the industry also appreciated Rani Mukerji’s daredevil and fierce avatar in the movie.
Rani Mukerji recounts the
disconcerting miscarriage, saying that she is pained because she can’t give daughter Adira a sibling.
Voicing on taking up a role that was so raw, Rani Mukerji had told a news agency that she thinks the 33 percent reserved positions for women Police especially in Mumbai and Gujarat need to be filled up as soon as possible and she strongly appeal that more women come forward and fill these positions and work for a cause. Her intention behind doing this film was to inspire women.
