entertainment journalism breathes his last at 86

According to his family in an official statement, Nari Hira was a trailblazer in print media, family man, and a father beyond compare.

A Senior journalist and founder of Stardust magazine, Nari Hira, is credited with transforming the Indian magazine industry, owned Magna Publishing in Mumbai, home to esteemed publications like Stardust, Savvy, Showtime, Society, and Health. In addition, he produced films with Magna Films, a division of his publishing house.

In remembrance to his legendary works, the industry also stepped forward to Hira’s family.

Karachi born in 1938, and following India’s division in 1947, he and his family relocated to Mumbai. In the 1960s, he started his journalism career and at the same time moved into publishing. His magazine Stardust, acclaimed for its sensationalised articles, rumours, and disclosures on Bollywood Celebrities.

In the wake of its contentious content, the magazine often fell in legal hot water as celebrities of the stature of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan sued the publishing house.

Regardless the hassles,Nari Hira was dubbed as the “King of Indian Magazines.

Several honours, such as the Indian Magazine Congress’ Lifetime Achievement Award, were given to Hira towards his contribution to Indian publications. His son Rahuul Hira, has taken charge as the managing director at Magna Publishing house.

Nari Hira’s death has left a vacuum in the Indian media landscape, but future generations will be motivated by his legacy as a visionary and trailblazer.
