Reliance Industries -Disney to sell Channels
In a bid to expedite the completion of the Reliance Industries Limited and Walt Disney merger, the parties have proposed selling a select few channels, a move aimed at securing faster anti-trust approval.
As per media agencies report, that RIL and Disney are ready to divest less than 10 TV Channels, addressing concerns about the merged entity’s potential dominance in the broadcast market. However, both companies have chosen to remain firm on retaining their existing cricket broadcast rights indicating their strategic value to the merger. The channels under consideration for sale are likely regional ones where concessions may ease the path for approval.
In the interim, the National Company Law Tribunal hearing on the merger, which was initially scheduled for August 12, never took place, following a previous adjournment. Industry sources speculate that Viacom18 and Walt Disney’s Star India aim to finalise the merger by October this year,
notwithstanding these delays.
