Reportedly, the Pathikrit Basu-directorial film is based on a short story scripted by Debarati Mukhopadhyay and jointly produced by Surinder Films and Soham’s Entertainment

The makers of “Shastri” shared
the first poster of Durga Puja release of the project which notedly marks the on-screen reacquaintance of Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy after 14 years.

Shastri centres around the short story of Dolgobinda Babur Choshma, scripted by Debarati Mukhopadhyay.

Taking to their social media account, makers Surinder Films wrote “Presenting the official poster of “Shastri” , coming this Pujo,”

Mithun and Debasree, who won fame for their chemistry in the 1982 hit Troyee, were a popular on-screen pair in the 1980s and ’90s. Their last film together was Shukno Lanka in 2010.

Besides Mithun and Debasree, Shastri will feature an ensemble cast that includes Saswata Chatterjee, Kanchan Mullick, Kaushik Sen, Anirban Chakrabarti, Rajatava Dutta, Sauraseni Maitra and Ambarish Bhattacharya. Soham Chakraborty is also expected to play an important part in the film.

The screenplay for Shastri has been scripted by Arnab Bhaumik and Aritra Bandyopadhyay, focusing on the theme of science versus astrology. Indraadip Dasgupta has composed the music for the film.

Shastri hits the theatres alongside Srijit Mukherji’s Tekka, featuring Dev in the lead role, and Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s action chase thriller Bohurupi this Puja.
