BMC move to raze illegal portion of mosque
Mumbai’s biggest slum, Dharavi is engulfed in tension as residents oppose the Civic Body’s (BMC) move to raze the illegal portion of the Mosque.
As per an official, this has led to hundreds of people gathering on the road.
When the BMC team from the G-North Admimistrative Ward landed at the 90 Feet road leading to the
Mehboob-E-Subhani mosque around 9 am
on Saturday, 21 September, to bulldoze the illegal portion of the Mosque, a large number of residents who spotted the team, blocked their entrance to the lane where the mosque stood.
Mumbai Police have deployed a large number of its force there to prevent any untoward incident in view of the prevailing situation. It’s well known that this is a dangerous place where anything can happen at anytime.
Thereafter, hundreds of people also assembled outside the Dharavi police station located there and squatted on the road to protest against the civic body’s move in a protest to thwart the civic body team from razing the illegal structure of the mosque. Latest report reveal that the situation has been brought to a control.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the mosque, BMC officials, and the Dharavi police are holding talks to resolve the issue. Needless to stress that Dharavi is known as Asia’s largest slum and is densely populated. Even a film “Slumdog Millionaire” was filmed in the slum.
