Throwback to: When Alia told Mahesh Bhatt ‘Give her a National Award-Winning Film’

Once Alia Bhatt told her father to give her a National Award Winning Film

As of now Alia Bhatt is being lauded for her performance in Vasan Bala’s Jigra. Markedly, Alia has come a long way in her acting journey since she made her debut in Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’.

Early in her career, one of her breakthrough performances was in Highway. Amidst the film’s promotion, she revealed that she wanted her father, Mahesh Bhatt, to give her a film which would bring her a national award.

Alia Bhatt earlier opened up that after Aashiqui 2, she called up Mohit Suri and said that it’s high time that he make a film for her. She used to keep telling her father all the time to give her a National Award-winning film, come on, make that film for me.

Alia and Mahesh Bhatt worked together in Sadak 2, which proved to be a disaster at the box office. Alia’s National Award win came with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra is eventually out in theatres and has been receiving mixed reviews from viewers and critics alike.

News18 Showsha gave the film 4.5/5 stars. Our review reads, “Even at 2 hours 35 minutes, Jigra makes for an exhilarating ride. It rarely drops pace and keeps you engaged throughout the narrative.

Despite being a narrative high on drama, Jigra never once felt theatrical. And the credit for the same goes to both the director and his actors. And even as it may remind one of Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi’s Gumrah, Jigra serves as a perfect palate cleanser and gives hope that Bollywood’s good times aren’t over yet. Jigra is audacious, trailblazing, sugar, spice, and everything nice and is a must-watch.
