SRK asked Zayed Khan can you act prior to casting in Main Hoon

Choreographer–turned filmmaker Farah Khan’s”Main Hoon Na” may have been a blockbuster, but not many may be versed that Zayed Khan’s casting story comes with a little drama.

In the midst a chat Zayed recounted how he bagged the role. Turns out, Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood himself, asked him a pretty blunt question before finalising the casting: “Can you act?” Zayed admitted feeling a bit hurt at the time, but clearly, things worked out, and he ended up being part of the film alongside the superstar.

Zayed Khan also recalled how Farah Khan had asked him to meet her at Shah Rukh Khan’s production office Red Chillies Entertainment. He shared that when he arrived, he told Farah, “Farah looks at him and he tells her that ‘Farah, firstly, he doesn’t know why is he here. but… She says ‘just shut up for two minutes’. He felt she is very rude.

Thereafter Shah Rukh walks in – as usual very sweet, very loving, very well-mannered.

Zayed Khan recalled that amidst the meet, he was listening to Shah Rukh but struggling to process everything. Shah Rukh eventually told him they were offering him the second lead in Main Hoon Na. Zayed recalled, he couldn’t say anything so he goes Let’s leave all these unimportant things, SRK asked him ‘Kya tum actor ho? Acting kar sakte ho?’ He felt bad that someone asked him like that. He said that he was born to act. It came from a point of view that he wasn’t trying to be arrogant or anything and was feeling very bad that he asked him again.

Main Hoon Na, released in 2004, was the directorial debut of Farah Khan and featured Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan, and Suniel Shetty.
