Rekha shares her bond with father legendary actor Gemini Ganesan
Recently, B’town’s stunning Diva Rekha opened up on reservations on her sister following her in the film industry.
Legendary actress Rekha shared a somewhat complicated bond with her father late legendary actor Gemini Ganesan. In several past interviews, the stunning Diva has opened up over her father’s multiple marriages and how she grew up without a father figure. An old interview with Gemini Ganesan has resurfaced, where he spoke about Rekha and drew comparisons amid his own relationships and those of actors like Dilip Kumar and Dharmendra.
In a conversation with the then Star & Style magazine, Gemini
Ganesan opened up
that initially, Rekha was against her younger sister, Radha Usman Syed, also recognised by her screen name Gigi, setting foot to the film industry. Gemini recalled, “Rekha had told ‘Appa, she is .already suffering in this line. Why should her sister too go through the same hell?’
However, Gemini refrained from interfering in his children’s personal choices, explaining that he believed in letting them handle their affairs independently.
He cited Rekha’s rumoured relationship with Amitabh Bachchan as an example of something he chose not to intervene in, notwithstanding public scrutiny.
People tell that Rekha has messed up her personal life by getting involved with Amitabh. But I never discuss Rekha’s personal affair with her. Why should I?,” he had said.
Gemini also reflected on his own relationships, mentioning how his marriages to Rekha’s mother, Pushpavalli, and actress Savitri, sparked scandal in the industry at the time.He went on to say that when he married Savitri and Pushpavalli several years ago, eyebrows were raised, and it turned out to be the biggest scandal in the industry. And yet today no one is aghast when they hear about Dilip Kumar marrying Asma or Dharmendra marrying Hema. So, in one way he thinks he has been the trend setter for extramarital involvements in the industry.”
Earlier, in an interview with Simi Garewal, Rekha shared that she never truly knew her father, who left her mother, Pushpavalli, when Rekha was just a baby when he moved out of their lives and she doesn’t even remember him being at home. She also recalled attending the same school as her step-siblings and seeing her father drop them off, yet he never seemed to notice her. “Looking back, maybe she did miss him. But when you haven’t tasted something, you don’t know what it means. She even didn’t know what the word ‘father’ meant.
