The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show aired on Saturday, 9 November, host Kapil Sharma and the audience welcomed two iconic couples in business and entrepreneurship: Narayana and Sudha Murthy, and Deepinder and Gia Goyal of Zomato. Kapil Sharma, acknowledged for his wit and humor, didn’t miss the opportunity to showcase the accomplishments of his esteemed guests, particularly focusing on the entrepreneurial spirit of Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, and his philanthropist wife, Sudha Murthy.
Kapil wittly acknowledged the vast knowledge and educational achievements of the Murthys. Narayan and Sudha have studied so much, both are successful entrepreneurs.
He said most of the time, he can’t even pronounce the word ‘entrepreneur’ correctly,” he joked. “he learnt it in the morning on how to pronounce it.
Narayana Murthy responded warmly, appreciated Kapil’s unique talent and acknowledged his entrepreneurial prowess. “Kapil ji,” he said, “you are an extraordinary entrepreneur. Because entrepreneurship is all about coming up with an innovative idea an idea that has a differentiated value compared to all other ideas, and then getting spectators for you. So, therefore you are as much of an entrepreneur as any of us. And perhaps, you are a very successful one.”
Kapil thanked him sincerely, while Sudha Murthy added her own insight, stating, “In this entrepreneurship, your capital is your sense of humor. That capital has made you grow so much.”
The conversation then shifted to the Murthys’ personal lives, with Kapil asking about their early days. Narayana Murthy fondly recalled the first time he saw Sudha, saying, “She was like a breath of fresh air; she came with a lot of positive energy.” Sudha, however, had her own humorous memory, sharing, “He was 2 hours late the first time he came to meet my father.”
Kapil couldn’t resist asking Narayana Murthy if there was anything he still got scolded for by Sudha. Murthy admitted with a smile, “She is very careful about money. She spends a lot on philanthropy but not for her own comfort or personal needs.” Sudha explained further, “He does shopping. What do we need in life? Good food, not chana bhature, but good, healthy food. We don’t need many clothes. He’ll tell her to buy business class tickets, but she will ask ‘Why? She will reach the same destination at the same time in economy.’ This is where we have a difference of opinion. We are opposites, but opposites attract, so we find a compromise zone.”
The Murthys expressed gratitude for being invited despite not being actors or from showbiz, and Archana Puran Singh commented, “You are the biggest celebrity of all.” The episode beautifully highlighted how humor and humility bridge worlds, showing the entrepreneurial spirit shared by Kapil and his guests.
