Boney Kapoor`s life story is blended with professional success personal challenges, marked by his iconic films, and complex relationships.
Boney first garnered widespread recognition with the 1987 blockbuster Mr. India, a film that featured his brother Anil Kapoor and Sridevi.
Acknowledged for producing numerous successful films includingJudaai, Pukar, Company, and Bewafaa, Boney’s career flourished, but his off-screen life faced intense public scrutiny due to his relationship with Sridevi, which began while he was still married to his first wife, Mona Shourie.
In an interview in 2013, Boney recalled being captivated” by Sridevi after seeing her in a Tamil film. He even offered her mother an increased fee of Rs 11 lakh to secure Sridevi for Mr. India, which was notably higher than her standard rate at the time.
Elaborating the encounter as “almost like a dream come true,” he said, that the few words she spoke in broken Hindi and broken English touched him, moved him, and made him curious to know her more. To win her respect, he ensured Sridevi had the best amenities on set, from top-notch costumes to a comfortable makeup room.
Regardless being married to Mona with two children, Arjun and Anshula, Boney decided to be transparent on his feelings for Sridevi. He revealed to Mona that Sridevi had even moved in with him before their marriage, openly acknowledging his emotional turmoil.
This disclosure, combined with his ongoing connect to Sridevi, invited public criticism and backlash, with Sridevi labelled as a “home-wrecker.”
In an another interview Boney revealed, that he was very honest with his wife, Arjun’s mother, Mona. She very well knew what his feelings were for Sridevi. He went out of his way for a lot of things where she is concerned.
After wrapping up Mr.India, his feelings deepened when Sridevi left for Switzerland to shoot for Yash Chopra’s Chandni. He followed her there, and though she initially reacted with anger and distanced herself from him, her attitude transformed in 1995 when Boney supported her through her mother’s passing away. According Boney, Sridevi began to recognize his dedication, saying, that
she perhaps realised that she was sincere, not looking for a fling.
The couple married in June 1996, with their relationship becoming public in early 1997 after Sridevi’s pregnancy.
Mona Kapoor, who passed away due to cancer in 2012, once revealed on her children’s struggles amidst this period, sharing that Arjun and Anshula faced bullying but emerged stronger. Although initially estranged, Arjun and Anshula have since reconciled with their father and built a close relationship with their half-sisters, Janhvi and Khushi.
