Madhuri Dixit recalls declining Hollywood owing to pregnancy.
Recently in a media interaction, Madhuri Dixit, recalled that at the peak of her career
in 1999 she tied the knot to Dr. Shriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon from California, in 1999.
After her marriage, she moved to Colorado to balance her family life, and was doing fewer films amidst that decade. She became a mother to two sons, Arin and Ryan, and returned to India in 2011. In the course of her interview, she elaborated on her time in the U.S. and revealed why she declined Hollywood offers.
There were one or two opportunities that came her way, but she was pregnant with second child at that time and never wanted to work in pregnancy. While many of her Bollywood peers, Aishwarya Rai, Irrfan, and Anil Kapoor, explored Hollywood amidst that period, Madhuri said she didn’t actively pursue a career in the West as she was much involved in making a family and living that life, which was also a part of her dreams. She didn’t really think about doing a Hollywood film. She is happy doing here. And Indian films, anyway, are watched all over the world.
Madhuri and Dr. Nene’s sons, Arin and Ryan, are studying in the U.S. She recently shared how thrilled she was when her sons watched Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in a theater with their friends. They don’t usually sit and watch her films (laughs). But they did watch Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Her son called her and said that they found the film very funny and really enjoyed it. They loved her as a ghost. So, for this film, she got their approval.
However, Madhuri added that she doesn’t push her sons to watch her movies and prefers letting them discover her work on their own. “They’re curious. Once in a while, they watch some scenes and ask her ‘When did she do this movie?’ They recently watched the video of K Sera Sera and told her she was really cool in it. But she found it odd to make them sit and watch her movies and let them discover all that with their friends.
