Dry days for 4 days amid Assembly elections Liquor shops will remain closed
Election Commission of India has ordered dry days in Mumbai and Liquor shops will remain closed for 4 days in view of the Maharashtra Assembly elections
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) order, the sale of liquor will be prohibited across Mumbai and other cities to ensure a smooth conduct of the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024.
Prohibitions are also imposed in places where elections are scheduled to take place, especially amidst the voting day as well as the day when votes are counted to avoid any disruption in the process.
As per the official schedule announced by the Election Commission, polling for the 2024 Assembly elections in Maharashtra is slated to take place on November 20. All the 288 Assembly constituencies in the state will go to polls in a single phase.
Earlier, Mumbai, along with other cities in Maharashtra like Thane and Pune, witnessed a dry day on November 12 due to the auspicious occasion of Kartik Ekadashi.
On November 18, the sale of liquor in Mumbai, along with other cities, will be banned after 6 pm.
On November 19, Mumbai will witness a full dry day, a day before the crucial Assembly polls.
On November 20, voting day, sale of liquor will remain prohibited in Mumbai till 6 pm.
On November 23 sale of liquor is banned till 6 pm as the Election Commission will announce the results of the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024.
Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had declared a holiday on November 20 for all the employees working with businesses and offices falling under the BMC limits to allow people to cast their votes.
If any person is found violating the order then strict action shall be taken against the employers, said BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.
He also made it clear that the employees working within BMC limits will not have to face any action or salary deduction if they take a leave on November 20.
