Ashutosh Gowariker’s production house clocks 20 years-SRK Hrithik give shoutout
Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Private Limited (AGPPL), the film production house founded by filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and his wife Sunita Gowariker, has clocked 20 glorious years in Indian cinema.
In a bid to mark this milestone, several notable names from the Indian film industry have come together to congratulate Gowariker on his remarkable journey.
Gowariker’s production house has given Indian cinema some of its most iconic films, including the timeless classic Swades, the critically acclaimed magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar, and the historical drama Panipat – The Great Betrayal.
Shah Rukh Khan, who worked with Ashutosh Gowariker on Swades, congratulated the filmmaker on AGPPL completing 20 years in the industry. Taking to his social media Shah Rukh Khan wrote “Congratulations Ash Gowariker !! Your vision and talent has given us many films to cherish. Twenty years is a big milestone and here’s to many many more years of fantastic films!! Swades will always be one of my most special films…”
Responding to SRK, the filmmaker wrote, “Thank you so much, Shah Rukh for being a friend AND well-wisher for the longest time! Swades is truly that bond amid us, that will always remain so SPECIAL!!!.”
Hrithik Roshan, who headlined Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar alongside Aishwarya Rai, also congratulated the filmmaker on his achievement. “Congratulations on 20 years of excellence in storytelling, direction and producing memorable cinema, ashutosh gowariker sunita.gowariker & agppl team! To many more,” Roshan wrote.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, also congratulated the filmmaker on his production house completing 20 years in the industry. Javed Akhtar and Arjun Kapoor were among the other Bollywood stars who congratulated Gowariker on his milestone.

Ashutosh Gowariker recently opened up about how his filmmaking changed after he launched his production house twenty years ago. When asked what inspired him to establish AGPPL after the success of Aamir Khan’s Lagaan, and what motivated him to start with Swades as his first production venture, Gowariker revealed to the media that he realised that if he was again making a film, he would take the opportunity to stand on his own feet and produce his own stuff.
With Lagaan, his experience was very good as Aamir Khan gave him all the freedom and facilities to make the film in the best possible way. He wanted to replicate that, and it was possible only if he turned a producer himself. He asked his wife, Sunita, whether she would accept the role of a producer, a field that was new to her as well. Thankfully, she immediately agreed and said she’d love to take on the role. That’s how they floated the company and decided to produce only those films that he wanted to direct. It was too soon to branch out and make films for other directors and develop other talent. So they decided to first focus on developing their own talent, which is himself.
