Malayalam Film Industry’s legendary actor Mohanlal wishes to take on more Hindi films. He shared his joy over Pushpa 2’s success and saying Films should thrive.
Having acted in more than 400 films, Mohanlal recently donned the director’s hat and his debut directorial Barroz 3D is to hit the screens soon.
Recently, Mohanlal caught up with Bollywood’s Akshay Kumar amidst the trailer launch event of the former’s debut directorial Barroz 3D in Mumbai on Wednesday.
As his film is all set for a Christmas release, Mohanlal is excited to bring a 3D film to Malayalam cinema, 40 years after My Dear Kuttichathan (1984), which was later dubbed in Hindi as Chhota Chetan in 1998.
Elaborating on his ambitious film at its trailer launch on Wednesday, Mohanlal said, “Entity-wise, Kerala is a small market, but things are changing now. Films are going pan-India. Nonetheless, we (Malayalees) were the first people to introduce cinemascope, process 70mm and make the first co-produced film. We want to try something new. We made the first 3D film in Malayalam. Now, after 40 years, we have made another 3D film.”

Mohanlal also shared how he would like to work in Hindi films and be part of more films. Pointing out that many of his films have been dubbed in Hindi, he went on to say, he has done a couple of Hindi films. Even now, if someone calls him to do one, he will. As actors, we don’t have that choice.” He previously worked in movies such as director Ram Gopal Varma’s Company (2002) and Aag (2007), and Priyadarshan’s Tezz (2012).
Amidst the media interaction, the Malayalam legend also revealed
about Pushpa 2’s success and added, he prays to the almighty that all films should run. He feels very happy for Pushpa 2. Films should thrive.” Barroz 3D will hit the screens worldwide on December 25, the day on which the actor’s first movie Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980) and one of the biggest hits in his career, Manichitrathazhu (1993), were released.
