Notably, the Russian Film Festival 2024 completed its
much- celebrated run in India on December 15, leaving a landmark on cinema enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs in Mumbai and Delhi.
The Fest hosted at Cinepolis Fun Republic, Andheri, Mumbai, from December 12 to 15, and at Cinepolis, Saket, Delhi, from December 13 to 15, highlighted the brilliance of Russian cinema, underscoring the India/Russia enduring bond.
Russian cultural ministry official Oksana claimed to be a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan. She had watched Jawan and dubs his smile, charisma, romantic aura as memorable.
Organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture, the festival kicked-off with an electrifying opening ceremony in Mumbai on December 12. Featuring prominent Russian delegates, the Cultural Attaché from the Russian Embassy, and representatives from the Ministry of Culture, the event underscored the significance of cross-cultural storytelling. Mikhail Lukachevskii’s Triumph opened the festival to rapturous applause, setting the tone for what would become a cinematic extravaganza.
Audiences were enthralled by the universal themes of different Russian movies. Viewers lauded the interactive session, which deepened their understanding and appreciation of the art form.
After its success in Mumbai, the festival moved to Delhi on December 13, where Cinepolis, Saket, buzzed with anticipation. The carefully curated line-up of films, including Ice 3, The Flying Ship, The Pirates Of The Barracuda Galaxy and the timeless classic, Guest From The Future, thrilled audiences in both cities. With English subtitles, the festival ensured accessibility for all, further strengthening the universal appeal of Russian storytelling.
The festival’s atmosphere was warm and inviting, fostering a family-friendly vibe that made it a hit among audiences of all ages. Each screening was met with standing ovations, and by the time the curtains fell in Mumbai and Delhi on December 15, every show had been a sell-out.
According to Oksana Frolova, Deputy Director of Roskino, and a part of the Ministry of Culture, Government of Russia, shared her joy about the overwhelming response amidst an exclusive interview. Reflecting on the cultural connection amid India and Russia, she fondly recalled, “When they were kids, their entire family would assemble to watch Indian movies for their vibrancy and colour.
Notedly, Indian cinema holds a special place in their hearts. Although not many Indian films are released in Russia today, she recently happened to watch Jawan 2023.’
She is all praise for Shah Rukh Khan and says He truly is an embodiment of the magic of Indian cinema.
Frolova’s remarks showcased the deep admiration Russians have for Indian cinema and the cultural resonance it continues to hold.
The closing ceremonies in both cities were a testament to the festival’s success, celebrating the power of cinema to transcend borders and unite diverse cultures.
