Malayalam actors honoured at 29th IFFK 2024 award event
Saji Cherian, Minister for Culture and Films in the midst of addressing the IFFK 2024 event on Sunday 15 December, honoured veteran Malayalam female actors at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala at the
Nisagandhi auditorium and also felicitated the legendary actors who had been active in the Malayalam cinema from its early days till the 1980s.
The Kerala government has initiated steps to introduce a legislation ensuring safe workplaces for women, including in the film industry, Minister for Culture and Films Saji Cherian said in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
Those actors honoured at the event included
K R Vijaya, T R Omana, Vidhubala, Bhavani (Lisa), Shobha (Chembarathi), Hema Chaudhary, Kanakadurga, Reena, Shanthikrishna, Sreelatha Namboothiri, Surekha, Jalaja, Menaka, Anupama Mohan, Shanthakumari, Mallika Sukumaran, Sachu (Saraswathy), Usha Kumari, Vinodini, Rajasree (Gracie), Vanchiyoor Radha, and Vanitha Krishnachandran.
Premkumar, Chairman, Kerala Chalachitra Academy, said that the initiative underscored the festival’s commitment to highlighting and honouring the significant contributions of women in the film industry.
In their response speeches, the actors expressed their gratitude to the government for remembering their contributions and arranging the event where all of them could meet and share experiences.
A musical programme featuring songs from the actors’ films was held as part of the event.
