Ferry With 30 On Board Sinks Off Mumbai, Rescue On
A ferry with 30 on board travelling from the Gateway to Elephanta Island near Mumbai tl started sinking.
Efforts being made to rescue the passengers.
Visuals show people wearing life jackets being rescued and shifted to another boat, while the vessel is slowly sinking into the sea.
The boat named Neelkamal, was going to Elephanta and suddenly started sinking near Uran, Karanja. Around 30 to 35 passengers were on board the vessel. There are no reports of any casualties yet.
Relief operations are underway and three teams of the Navy, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Coast Guard, Yellow Gate police station and local fishermen are helping rescue the passengers. The Coast Guard has managed to rescue most of the passengers and the operation is underway.
Public ferries were available to travel to Elephanta caves from Gateway of India, which is located east of the monument. The incident took place closer to Elephanta island and people are being brought back to Gateway of India.
