Mani Ratnam directorial Gulzar’s songs, AR Rahman’s music “Raavan” failed to click
In 2010, much-anticipated film Raavan, featuring real-life couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, hit the theatres.
Notwithstanding the star power and a massive budget of
Rs 55 crore, the film failed to enthrall the audience’s attention and ultimately proved a debacle at the box office.
The film “Raavan”Mani Ratnam’s directorial was expected to be a major success, but it couldn’t live up to the hype.
The film featured an impressive lineup of talent, with screenplay penned by Vijay Krishna Acharya, a celebrated director known for the Dhoom franchise. The film’s music was composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman, an Oscar winner, and the lyrics were penned by Gulzar. Regardless such a strong creative team, the film’s songs failed to gain significant popularity, with only one track, Raanjha Raanjha, standing out among six songs.
Raavan hit the theatres with a budget of Rs 55 crore and grossed
Rs 24 crore in its first week.
However, the box office momentum soon slowed, and the film struggled to stay afloat, ultimately earning just Rs 39 crore.
It was considered a massive disappointment and even after the failure Amitabh Bachchan commented on the film’s underperformance.
