Hailing from a family rooted in literature, his mother published a newsletter called Rehbar and his brother Hamid Sayani was a renowned English broadcaster—Ameen Sayani found his calling behind the microphone.

Embarking on his career with Radio Ceylon in 1952, Ameen shifted from English to Hindi and created Binaca Geetmala, a show that turned out as 7a phenomenon across South Asia. First aired in December 1952, the program, which ranked popular songs, became a household name and changed the way we experienced music on the radio.
