Remembring actor Satish Kaul who passed away in April 2021
Not many may know that punjabi film actor Satish Kaul was called Amitabh Bachchan of Punjabi Cinema. He had the privilege to have shared screen space with Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, lived in old age home, had no money and was one of the most loved stars in the film industry.
However, after the glamour of cinema faded, it left him struggling to make ends meet.
There are numerous actors who elevate to stardom and deliver unforgettable movies, only to find themselves facing a harsh reality in their later years.
Even though these actors once enjoyed fame, they end up battling personal and financial crises, often living in obscurity or, in some cases, even on the streets.
Satish Kaul was a prominent figure in Indian cinema, with a career spanning over 300 films. Throughout his journey, he worked alongside some of the biggest stars, including Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan. Among his notable roles were performances in films like Sassi Punnu, Ishq Nimana, Prem Parbat, Suhag Chooda and Patola. Later, he became famous for portraying Lord Indra in the iconic television series Mahabharat.
He was affectionately dubbed the ‘Amitabh Bachchan Of Punjabi Cinema’ for his remarkable contributions to the industry. As an ode to his career, the actor was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2011.
Once called Punjab’s Amitabh Bachchan, but Bollywood rejected him, even Dilip Kumar couldn’t make his career.
Satish Kaul’s later years were filled with financial difficulties. The actor started an acting school in Ludhiana, which didn’t work out and he lost his savings. Later, his wife divorced him and left with their son. In 2020, amid the nationwide lockdown, he publicly asked for help, saying, he is struggling for medicines, groceries, and basic needs. He made an appeal to the industry people to help him. He received much love as an actor, needed some attention now as a human.
In 2015, his condition worsened after a fall, which led to a fractured hip and two years of bed rest, further depleting his savings. Ultimately, he had to reside in an old age home in Ludhiana due to a lack of financial support.
Unfortunately, his health declined further when he contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalized in Ludhiana, where he passed away.
The actor took his last breath on April 10, 2021.
