The censor board axed a few scenes due to excessive violence and Gabbar’s violent depiction. However, axed scenes have resurfaced again after 49 years.
Infact, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar’s timeless blockbuster film,
remains much loved even 50 years following its release.
Interestingly, the film’s re-release in theatres continues to draw enthusiastic crowds.
The film boasts several iconic scenes that received standing ovations, but did you know many scenes were deleted before its release?
There is one such deleted scene which has resurfaced after 49 years.
However, prior to the film’s release, the censor board made several cuts. A recently uncovered deleted scene featuring Gabbar Singh’s ruthlessness has gone viral. The scene is of Gabbar (Amjad Khan) and Basanti(Hema Malini) in tonga.
Gabbar Singh’s terrifying presence
an Instagram account named ‘Old is Gold’ recently shared a photo from one such deleted scene. Another image shows Gabbar, played by Amjad Khan, standing menacingly while pulling Sachin Pilgaonkar’s character, Ahmed, by the hair. Surrounding them is a convoy of bandits.
The censor board removed this scene due to its excessive violence and Gabbar’s cruel depiction.
Every dialogue in Sholay is legendary, particularly the chilling line: “Yahaan se pachaas-pachaas kos door jab bachcha raat ko rota hai to maa kehti hai, ‘so ja beta, nahi to Gabbar aa jaayega’.”
Gabbar Singh instilled such fear that many scenes depicting his character’s cruelty were censored.
