Not many may know that legendary actor Raaj Kumar was an IAS Sub-Inspector of Police at Mahim Police Station n Mumbai in 1950s prior to emerging as an actor.

Raaj Kumar, originally Kulbhushan Pandit, notwithstanding a stable career in law enforcement, his creative ambitions led him to Bollywood, where he became one of the industry’s most iconic actors, acknowledged for his powerful screen presence, unique voice and dialogue delivery.

One of Bollywood’s most exceptional actors, had an interesting journey before entering the film industry. Rega⁹oʻoŏ having a stable and respected career in law enforcement, Raaj Kumar harbored dreams of doing something bigger and more creative.

In 1952, he decided to leave his police job and take a leap of faith into the world of Hindi cinema. Even as his first film, Rangeeli, did not make a big impact.
Gradually, his talent, unique dialogue delivery, and distinct style gained recognition. It was in 1957, with his role in Nausherwan-e-Adil, that he began to establish himself as a rising star.

Later that year, his small but impactful role in the legendary film Mother India further cemented his position in the industry.

Acknowledged for his signature dialogue style and his iconic word “Jaani,” Raaj Kumar appeared in numerous cinematic gems, including Waqt, Hamraaz, and Pakeezah. One of his quirks was his insistence on wearing white shoes in every scene, a style statement that became synonymous with his personality.
