Ameesha opens up on new landscape of film industry
Renownee Ameesha Patel recently opened up on the transforming landscape of the film industry, sharing her perspective on how the priorities of actors have shifted over time.
In a recent media interaction, Ameesha Patel Patel articulated that amidst her on her generation of actors and today’s actors who were more grounded and dedicated to their craft. And she went on to mention stars like
Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor Khan, emphasizing that they were primarily focused on delivering strong performances in front of the camera.
As per Ameesha,
the current generation of actors appear to be more invested in their digital image rather than honing their craft.
Adding that to-day’s generation is more concerned about their Facebook and Instagram portrayal. That is the biggest drawback—they’re unable to draw audiences to buy tickets at the box office because they are more focused on making reels, showing what happens in their makeup van with their makeup artist, their stylist, their entourage. They seem happier being seen at parties than on the 70mm screen,” she shared.
She pointed out how the shift in focus towards social media has negatively impacted box office success for younger actors. She also emphasized that seasoned stars Salman Shah Rukh and Akshay continue to draw audiences because their priority has always been their on-screen performances rather than their social media presence. Patel argued that excessive emphasis on parties and online visibility has weakened the appeal of newer actors, whereas her generation maintained longevity by focusing on their craft.
The Gadar 2 actress highlighted how the constant visibility of today’s actors has diminished their star power, arguing that maintaining an air of mystery is crucial for sustaining audience intrigue. She contrasted this with Legenda like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who achieved massive stardom despite limited media exposure. Ameesha noted that their rarity on public platforms created a sense of loyalty and anticipation among fans—something she believes is lacking in the current generation of actors.
Ameesha concluded with a strong message for the current generation of actors, underscoring the true essence of stardom. “That’s what real cinema is—killing it on the big screen, not on Facebook and Instagram.”
