Rekha Gupta is Delhi’s New Chief Minister
Shalimar Bagh MLA Rekha Gupta will be the new chief minister of Delhi.
This was officially announced by the BJP on Wednesday after legislature party meeting that concluded on Wednesday evening.
Taking to her X Rekha expressed her gratitude for the BJP’s top post and for trusting her and entrusting her with the responsibility of Chief Minister. This trust and support have given her new energy and inspiration. She pledges to work with full honesty, integrity, and dedication for the welfare, empowerment, and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. That she is fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights.
Rekha Gupta‘s swearing-in ceremony along with other ministers of the cabinet will be held on February 20 at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
Rekha Gupta, who is set to become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, is a RSS member and was part of the Sangh’s students’ wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The 50-year-old takes over from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi.
A lawyer by profession, Rekha entered electoral politics in 2007 when she won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections from the North Pitampura ward.
The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, securing a clear majority with 44 out of 70 seats in the February 8 Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma will take on the role of Deputy Chief Minister, while Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta has been appointed as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
