Shashi Tharoor likely to embrace BJP?
With the opposition parties feeling lost after their defeat in the Delhi Elections, Shashi mentions it isn’t right to join other party if you can’t embrace their belief, but added there is always an option to be Independent.
Shashi Tharoor revealed that while his mother encourages him to remarry, he is content with his current phase.
The Congress leader has been headlining recently, after reports claiming Rahul Gandhi is sidelining him amid disgruntlement in the Kerala cadre. Amid the rumours, his photo with BJP’s Union Minister Piyush Goyal added fuel to the fire. The four-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram now surges forward to put an end to the curiosity on his future in the Congress party.
Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor, amidst a media conversation dismissed the idea of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party citing ideological differences.
Not that every party has their own belief and history. It is not right to join other party if you can’t embrace their belief. He doesn’t think that is right. But there is always an option to be independent.
TheThiruvananthapuram leader said at the national level, BJP has shown the ability to put forward this which we haven’t been able to replicate in many states. In Kerala, CPIM has shown the ability in the last two elections and he doesn’t see anything wrong in pointing that out. We (Congress) lack organisation in every booth, and lack workers. We are not a cadre-based party. We have many leaders but we lack workers. But he he has no.plan of changing India into ‘Hindu Rashtra’. This is against our Constitution,” Tharoor further said.
Reacting to his recent criticism by the Congress over his praise for PM Modi and the Kerala government, he said that he has expressed opinions on several issues that were not “liked by Congress” in the past and he has been facing this situation for a long time.
He opposed Nehru’s panchayati raj, he opposed BJP’s Hindutva and communal agenda, he opposes Left ideology and opposes Emergency, it was wrong and it suspended our state liberties and freedom of expression. He has criticised everyone at some point. He has opinions and sometimes they are not liked by his party. He has been facing that for a long, no point in discussing it.
He also said that he does not consider himself a “primary politician” and intends to work in the interest of the people.
He does things with sincerity and speak as an individual. He doesn’t see himself a primary politician. He wants to do things for his country but as an opposition leader, there are limitations so all he can do is say and keep the interest of the people and the state as a priority,” the Congress leader said.
