Anant Ambani’s Vantara Elephant Care Centre receives India’s highest honour
Anant Ambani’s Vantara Elephant Care Centre received India’s highest honour with ‘Prani Mitra’ in recognition for animal welfare in the Corporate category.
Notably, Vantara’s Elephant Care Centre is home to the world’s largest elephant hospital, offering advanced veterinary treatments using allopathy, Ayurveda, and acupuncture. The honour was done to Anant Ambani in recognition to the outstanding efforts of the Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust (RKTEWT), a part of Vantara, which focuses on rescuing and caring for elephants.
The award was presented at a ceremony in New Delhi by the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, recognizing Vantara’s commitment to animal welfare.
Vantara’s Elephant Care Centre serves as a sanctuary for over 240 rescued elephants, providing them with a safe and natural habitat. Among them, 30 were saved from circuses, over 100 from the logging industry, and many others from harsh conditions like street begging and tourist rides. The sanctuary, spread across 998 acres of specially designed forest land, allows elephants to live freely, interact with each other, and engage in natural behaviors like foraging and bathing. They also receive top-notch medical care and dedicated attention.
