Mumbai will always remain tech hub says Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis
At the Mumbai Tech Week CM Fadnavis acknowledged Mumbai’s past infrastructure challenges that led
IT hubs to shift base to Hyderabad and Bengaluru. But, is optimistic over
current progress.
Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis on 28 February further went on to add that
Mumbai has transitioned as India’s financial capital to cementing status as country’s technology hub and that though Mumbai lived its time as the financial capital, it will nevertheless exist as tech capital.
Fadnavis further asserted that Mumbai city’s role is to drive digital transformation, tackling cybercrime, and fostering innovation focusing on the tech revolution.
Fadnavis also highlighted the evolving nature of crime, noting significant rise in cyber-related offences. He continued foresee a time when 70% of crimes will be cyber-related, with only 30% being street crimes.
And in a bid to combat this, Maharashtra has put up a dedicated cyber headquarters and developed an integrated platform connecting banks, Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), and other institutions to address online fraud effectively.
CM Fadnavis also acknowledged
Mumbai’s past infrastructure challenges that led IT hubs to shift to Hyderabad and Bengaluru but is optimistic about current progress.
He highlighted that Navi Mumbai now holds 60% of India’s data centre capacity. And that the upcoming launch of
M-Hub, an incubator for startups, aims to foster innovation and provide “plug-and-play” workspaces to attract tech firms back to the city.
The Mumbai Tech Week 2025 was co-hosted by the Government of Maharashtra and the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM), runs from
28 Feb to March 1
The event aims to position Mumbai as the “AI Use Case Capital for Asia,” focusing on AI’s transformative impact across sectors such as finance, media, manufacturing, and entertainment.
The main conference, held at the Jio World Convention Centre in BKC on February 28 and March 1, features:
Keynote Speeches and Panels: Featuring prominent speakers like Rajeev Chandrasekhar (former Minister of State for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology), Akash Ambani (Reliance Jio), Sandhya Devanathan (Meta India), Niki Parmar (Anthropic), Vijay Karunamurthy (Scale AI), and former cricketer Rahul Dravid.
