Shashi Kapoor was first theatre enthusiast then actor
Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor was a passionate theatre enthusiast, just not a celebrated actor. He played a key role in reviving Prithvi Theatre originally founded by his father, the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor.
Reportedly, Prithvi theatre was built in 1978 with the efforts of Shashi and his wife Jennifer Kendal, aiming to provide a platform for stage artists and promote meaningful theatre.
Notwithstanding his successful Bollywood career, Shashi always remained deeply connected to theatre. He believed in the power of storytelling beyond cinema and worked hard to keep the theatre culture alive in India. Prithvi Theatre remains an important landmark in Mumbai, carrying forward his dream and contribution to Indian performing arts.
