Speaking with media persons, music composer Rajesh Roshan shared an interesting narrative about Lata Mangeshkar.

Rajesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan’s uncle, and brother of actor-turned filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, has collaborated with some of the biggest singers amidst his career. He shared how Lata refused to sing the song “Ye Raatein Nayi Purani” from the film Julie saying, when she retired, she called him and thanked him for
‘Ye Raatien’. He remembered she had cancelled the song early morning and later didn’t give dates. She asked him to get someone else to sing the song, everybody wanted her to sing this, but she was very concerned about preserving her voice.”

He continued, he went to Film Center where Kalyanji Bhai was recording..She had told him that if she finished Kalyanji’s song on time, then she would sing for him.

He had to buy a music track and keep it and was much disappointed that it was his first or second film and Didi didn’t come. Kalyanji bhai told him that her throat was sore. But, seeing him so disappointed, he agreed to bring her with him.

From the Film Center, reached Famous Studios, it was hardly a two-minute drive. The song dubbing started, she began to sing and he was very puzzled. He had purchased a music track and kept it, so it kept bothering him that his song was messed up

Rajesh also spoke about how Lata Mangeshkar sang “Julie Loves You” without any reservations. “‘Julie Loves You’ was just an ordinary song, it was Lataji who elevated it. Until then, she had never sung a word in English, we didn’t have to get permission from her to make her sing Love You. The way she sang that song was so intoxicating, both she and Kishore Da kept working on it and some amazing pieces came out.
