Dharma Productions to hire fresh filmmaker for upcoming project
Karan Johar, through a lengthy note on Instagram, reflected on Dharma Productions’ journey over the years, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to nurturing fresh talent in the industry.
The renowned filmmaker onThursday, March 20, took to his Karan Johar took to social media to announce on his upcoming project.
Describing the project as one of Dharma Productions’ “proudest films,” Karan revealed that the debutant director, who is also the film’s co-producer, marks the 24th new filmmaker to be introduced by the esteemed production house.
Karan also had a note for the online trolls and he wrote: “trivia for trollers, 90% of them are outsiders.”
With this latest venture, Karan continues his legacy of bringing new voices to Indian cinema.The post read, “When he began producing films (once he stepped into Dharma as an active part of the company), in 2003 with Kal Ho Naa Ho – the idea was to empower filmmakers and storytellers…to pay it forward. We got it right…we got it wrong but the intent was always to put out stories and films we believed in. The motive was only either entertain, seek acclaim or to simply have fun at the movies! I am so proud to say that our next offering is the 24th debutant filmmaker we have introduced to Hindi cinema!”
Hitting back the journalists who frequently target him for collaborating with star kids, he took a subtle dig at the trolls. Karan further wrote, “(Trivia for trollers: 90% of them are ‘outsiders’) he rarely write notes before the release of a film but few films excite energise and inspire him the way the process of this film has.
Hinting more on the debutant, he wrote, their collaborative producer and debutant director have been on the journey of this film for 4 years…the director did nothing else but put his head down and work relentlessly on his film combating pandemic delays and other unforeseen circumstances. He (Karan) is inspired by the team of actors and technicians who gave the film and the team so much consistent support and love. One can never predict commercial success BUT what he can say with all his heart is that this film is one of Dharma’s proudest films! He says this as a filmmaker and an audience…. and prays for the team that the audience is coloured in the colour of their passion.
In a significant milestone, Dharma Productions recently ventured into regional cinema with the launch of its first Punjabi film, Akaal. The film is written and directed by renowned Punjabi star Gippy Grewal, who also takes on the lead role. The cast includes Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and Nikitin Dheer. Karan Johar expressed that unveiling the trailer on the birthdays of his mother, Hiroo Johar, and Dharma Productions’ CEO, Apoorva Mehta, made the occasion even more special.
