Looking back: When Jeetendra locked Jaya Prada and Sridevi in make-up room to end their brawl
Jaya Prada and Sridevi had shared screen space in several films but never communicated with each other on the set. Their rivalry was well-known in the industry.
Notably, in the midst of late 70’s and 80’s actresses Jaya Prada and Sridevi were the most celebrated actresses in Indian cinema amidst the late 1970s and 1980s. While they were often compared for their beauty and talent, their off-screen relationship was famously cold.
They frequently collaborated for multiple projects but maintained a professional distance and rarely communicated with each other on set. Their rivalry was well-known in the industry, with directors like Jeetendra trying to break the ice between them.
In the midst of a 2021 episode of Indian Idol, Jaya Parda revealed that Jeetendra was fed up of their feud. He and Rajesh Khanna tried to end the feud amid Sridevi and Jaya Prada. At the shoot of Maqsad, Sridevi and Jaya Prada locked them in
make-up room and mocked the two for an hour, forcing them to interact and hopefully resolve their differences.
Despite being locked in the room, Sridevi and Jaya Prada remained stubborn, sitting with their backs to each other. Jaya Parda recalled, “I still remember during the shoot of the Maqsad film, Jeetu Ji and Rajesh Khanna Ji locked both of us in one makeup room for an hour… but we both did not even say a word and then the superstars of Bollywood gave up on us.”

However, their long-standing feud finally came to an end in 2015 when Jaya Prada extended an olive branch by inviting Sridevi to her son’s wedding.

Jaya Prada expressed regret over not mending her relationship with Sridevi
Jaya Prada publicly expressed regret over not being able to form a closer friendship with Sridevi after her demise. She reflected on her relationship and noted, “We never had eye contact with each other, even after being perfect sisters on screen. We both competed with each other, be it in dresses or dances.”

Jaya Prada admitted she missed Sridevi after her death and wished that they had a better friendship. She said, “When I got the news how she has left us in between, it still upsets me and I miss her a lot because I feel alone and through this platform, I would also like to say that if somewhere she is listening to me I would just say that 1 wish we could talk to each other.”

They collaborated on several projects, including Tohfa Maqsad Aulad and Main Tera Dushman Sridevi and Jaya Prada’s on-screen chemistry and dance performances remain unforgettable, especially in movies like Tohfa, where they played sisters with a complicated relationship.
