Recently, Sonakshi Sinha and Rasha Thadani came down heavily over deforestation and strongly voiced their concerns over the deforestation at Kancha Gachibowli near the University of Hyderabad campus.
Raveena’s daughter Rasha questioned the destruction of biodiversity in the name of development. She added that it is a shame to see our country blessed with forests and bio-diversity, gasping for clean air.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha also slammed the rapid clearing of 400-acre green cover.
Meanwhile, latest update, reveals that the Supreme Court has stayed the deforestation drive at the bio-diversity-rich area, until further orders.
Sonakshi Sinha re-shared an Instagram post that read, In Japan, trees are carefully relocated instead of being cut for construction.
Vocalling her disapproval on. the tree felling in Kancha “And here we just cut down 400 acres of forest overnight. No biggie.”
Taking to her Instagram on Friday, Rasha Thadani shared a note in which she highlighted the importance of forests. “Our India is blessed with biodiversity. Rich, dense forests, home to countless species of birds, animals and plants. Yet, we silently watch as they continue to disappear in the name of development.

She further added, “Unfortunately, Us humans are selfish, we only think for our own benefit. With that being said, our country struggles with pollution, we NEED these jungles for clean air, clean water and a healthier future. If not for nature itself, protect our wildlife for our survival!! Every tree cut, every jungle lost, brings us closer to crisis. Temperatures are soaring, water is disappearing. Cutting the forests down for development is a contradictory statement. What will we do with this “development” without a healthy and clean place, go live, breathe, survive!?”
Rasha went on to write that people from all over the world come to visit forests in India, that have some of the rarest species, and while tourists are completely amazed,we do not understand its value. “It’s a shame to see our country so blessed with forests and biodiversity, and yet we’re gasping for clean air,” wrote Rasha.
For the unversed, the Kancha Gachibowli area near the University of Hyderabad has been at the center of major controversy due to its deforestation activities. Tensions ran high at the University of Hyderabad as a scuffle erupted between students and police after authorities barricaded the east campus, where excavators were clearing forested land.
The land is set to be auctioned, with the government eyeing a massive revenue boost of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 crore. The proposed plan includes the development of world-class IT parks and urban spaces.
The Supreme Court has intervened, halting all tree-felling activities in the Kancha Gachibowli area. On Thursday, the SC stayed the deforestation drive. Taking note of tree felling, the top court directed the Telangana government to ensure no tree felling in the area.
In the order, the apex court noted that the “news items shows that the authorities, taking advantage of long holidays over the weekend, have rushed through in felling the trees”. The forest is said to be home to eight species of scheduled animals.
