Bobby recalls of Dharmendra giving up Zanjeer due to emotional vow
Acclaimed Writer-Lyricist Javed Akhtar had earlier claimed Dharmendra rejected the Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri.
Bobby opens up on the emotional reason behind his father declining the blockbuster film.
Bobby further recalled the emotional reason that led Dharmendra to reject Zanjeer and said, “When Zanjeer was offered, Dad wanted to do it. However, we had a cousin sister who apparently had some issues with Prakash Mehra. She came to the house one day and said, I swear on me, if you do this film, you’ll only see my dead body’.So Dad was left with no option father but to give up on Zanjeer.”
When asked whether he or his family had ever done films to return a favour, Bobby recalled how his father once did a film to help a relative amidst a financial struggle. There was a film Satyakam. Dharamji did it for his aunt’s husband. They were facing some financial problems, so Dharamji gave them ₹25 lakhs. He doesn’t remember the exact amount, but just imagine—giving ₹25 lakhs in the ’60s. Dharamji has always been someone who has taken care of people.
