A man in Jalandhar has filed a case against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Siingh, among others from the ‘Jaat’ team, for hurting religious sentiments at the Sadar Police Station

The move comes amid protests by the Christian community over a scene in the film

A case has been registered at Jalandhar’s Sadar Police Station against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Siingh, director Gopichand Malineni, and producer Naveen Yerneni for hurting religious sentiments with a scene in their film ‘Jaat’.

The case was filed under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) . It was registered based on a complaint by Vikalp Gold, a resident of Pholdiwal village in Jalandhar.

The action initiative move comes amid objections from members of the Christian community who staged a protest outside the Police Commissioner’s office in connection with disrespect shown towards Lord Jesus Christ in the film ‘Jaat’.

They also submitted a memorandum demanding that a case be registered.
In the complaint to the police, the complainant alleged that a crucifixion scene from the film ‘Jaat’ mimics and mocks Lord Jesus Christ, thereby hurting the religious sentiments of the Christian community.

The scene in question features Hooda, who is playing the main villain, standing inside a church, beneath a crucifix placed above the sacred pulpit, while members of the congregation are seen praying. It also includes depictions of hooliganism and intimidation inside the church, which the community has found deeply offensive.

Earlier, members of the Christian community objected to the scene and threatened a ban on the film. Many of them said the scene amounts to the desecration of the church’s most sacred space – the pulpit.
A part of the scene is also included in the trailer. You can check it here:

Meanwhile, ‘Jaat’ is doing a good business at the box office. The film has wrapped up its first week at around
Rs 61.50 crore nett, and is now gearing up to take on Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari 2’ starting this weekend. It is directed by Malineni, while Hooda and Siingh play important roles alongside Deol. ‘

Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory produce the film.
