When Hema Malini was scared of Prem Chopra later romanced him
Factually many villains in the Indian Cinema have the power to send fresh chills down the spine when they appear on screen.
Be it Amrish Puri as Mogambo or Pran as Sher Khan in Prakash Mehra directorial Zanjeer, these iconic characters instill fear in the audience.
Apart from Amrish Puri and Pran there was another villain whom Hema Malini was genuinely afraid of and he was none other than the bad man Prem Chopra who has been essaying villainous roles in Hindi films since 1967.
Prem Chopra has worked in over 380 films across a career spanning more than 60 years.
For almost 28 years, he has ruled as the main villain in Hindi films. Prem Chopra and Hema Malini worked together in the film Raja Jani released in the year 1972.
Based on the 1956 American film Anastasia, Raja Jani was remade in Tamil as Adutha Varisu in 1983. Mohan Segal ‘s directorial film was Scripted by Ali Raza and featured Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Premnath, Prem Chopra, Johnny Walker, Durga Khote, Sajjan, Helen and Bindu.
Amidst her appearance on a television reality show, Hema Malini revealed that whenever Prem Chopra used to look at her, she used to get scared. On the TV show, when Hema was asked by the anchor which villain in Bollywood she was most scared of, she took the name of Prem Chopra.
Referring to a hit song from the film, ‘Kitna Maza Aa Raha Hai’, she recalled an interesting incident that had happened amidst the shooting of the film at Udaipur. In the entire film there was one song. Very beautiful song an she was romancing Prem Chopra in the song to make Dharmendra jealous in the film. However, Prem Chopra was so happy that he started behaving like a hero and Dharmendra used to get very irritated seeing it”, she said.
Besides this, Hema Malini has worked with Prem Chopra in films like ‘Aas-Paas’, ‘Naseeb’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Kranti’, ‘Andha Kanoon’, ‘Alibaba 40 Chor’.
