Oscar awardee Music Composer AR Rahman unveiled a visionary project aimed at reimagining classical Tamil literature for the digital age through his ARR Immersive Entertainment team to safeguard and celebrate the Tamil language’s historical and literary wealth in digital formats.
He announced via his social media accounts, emphasizing the enduring beauty of Tamil, thus acknowledging its status as one of the world’s oldest classical languages that continues to evolve over time.
Perumaichinnam — A Symbol of Pride
Titled Perumaichinnam, translates to Symbol of Pride seeks to reintroduce ancient Tamil literary gems using modern digital and visual storytelling techniques.
The composer revealed that the initiative is primarily envisioned as a digital experience but may also take physical form in the future, hinting at potential interactive installations.

‘Tamil’ is one of the world’s classical languages that continues to evolve even today. In particular, the Tamil sangams and research efforts have played an indispensable role in strengthening the language and enhancing its richness through thoughtful refinements.
This enduring vibrancy of our Tamil language highlights our responsibility to carry its legacy forward to the next generation through meaningful connections.
In this spirit, the ARR Immersive Entertainment team has embarked on a project to create a symbol of pride for the Tamil language. The initiative will present Tamil literary works in illustrated and various innovative digital formats.
The ARR Immersive Entertainment team is developing this Tamil symbol of pride as a digital rendering. In the future, a physical structure for this symbol may also be realized. We will be sharing more details about this soon.
