In the attack 1 dead, 12 injured in terror attack on tourists in J&K Pahalgam

PM Modi who is in Saudi Arabia after learning of terrorism in Jammu Kashmir’s Pahalgam, on Tuesday condemned the terror attack 7 killed and twelve others injured. He said that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and would not be spared.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister, who is in Jeddah on a two-day visit, extended his condolences to the victim’s family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.
Adding thatthose behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger.

Earlier, PM Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone about the Pahalgam terror attack and urgedv him to take all suitable measures. He also asked him to visit the site of the attack.

The attack happened around 2.30 pm on Tuesday when a group of terrorists, dressed in fatigues, opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow.

The Resistance Front, a local offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Laskhar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack in Baisaran, a scenic meadow in Pahalgam. The area is accessible only by foot or ponies.
Security forces reached the spot shortly after sounds of gunfire were heard and evacuation efforts were launched immediately.

A chopper was pressed into service for evacuation while some of the injured were brought down from the meadows by locals on ponies.

After the terror attack, Amit Shah called a
high-level meeting in Delhi. The meeting was attended by the Home Secretary, senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Jammu and Kashmir officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), was also present at the meeting virtually.
Amit Shah has already reached Srinagar an held an urgent security review meeting there. In a tweet, the Home Minister expressed anguish at the terror attack and vowed to come down heavily on the perpetrators with the “harshest consequences”.

“Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir his thoughts are with the family members of the victim.

Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences. Have briefed PM Modi about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing. Will hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies.

Many witnessed the traumatic attack when their loved ones were fired upon. One woman was in tears as she pleaded with rescue personnel to save her husband. Another woman claimed that a gunman said “you’re not a Muslim” and shot at her husband.
