Singer Mika Singh shares his frustration over award shows

Renowned singer Mika Singh recounted how Sonu Nigam was overlooked in favor of Ayushmann Khurrana. He criticized the lack of respect for legendary artists.

With a career spanning over two decades, Mika Singh has often avoided attending award ceremonies. In a conversation on YouTube channel, Mika recalled a particular instance from an award show where he felt that Sonu Nigam was unfairly overlooked in favour of Ayushmann Khurrana.

Amidst the media interaction, Mika said, he has given numerous hit songs but have never received a nomination. The reason is that years ago, around 2011, he had shared the message that whichever song might be a hit… kindly do not keep it for a nomination. It hurts when a song which has not been such a hit ends up winning.”

Citing an example, he said, that year, Sonu Nigam had a great song, but Filmfare awarded Ayushmann Khurrana for Paani da. So what is this? Is it the audience or it is sold? but Sonu deserved it. They should realize that even though some songs are hit they must always respect the legends. What is the point of calling him then? Don’t call him, that’s better. There’s no point in calling a singer to insult him that way.

Sonu Nigam was nominated at the 2013 Filmfare Awards for his song Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin from Agneepath. However, he lost the award to Ayushmann Khurrana, who won for his track Paani Da from Vicky Donor.
