Punjab Kings’ head coach Ricky Ponting was preparing to jet-back home when the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was implemented.

Ricky Ponting remained in Delhi and also took steps to ensure that Punjab Kings’ overseas players, who were understandably nervous amid fears of a potential large-scale conflict amid two nuclear nations, did not board the flight departing from the capital on Saturday night.

South African pacer Marco Jansen, a consistent member of Punjab Kings’ starting lineup this season, is the only player who departed India but is currently in transit through Dubai, just a brief flight away. With the official confirmation of the IPL restart expected soon, Punjab is in a strong position, as most of their key Indian and overseas players remain in the country and are ready to rejoin the squad.

In the debut season under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings are on the verge of securing their first play-off spot since 2014. Delhi Capitals were the other team left stuck in Dharamshala after their match was called off when Punjab had surged to 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs. The fixture is set to continue from that exact point, though the venue and date are yet to be finalized.
