Simi Garewal to walk the red carpet at Cannes on 19 May
Legendary actress and Television Simi Garewal makes her debut at Cannes and will reportedly walk the red carpet on May 19 for Aranyer Din Ratri’s 4K restored screening.
Infact this is Simi’s
much-awaited Cannes red carpet debut, and it’s a moment fans believe is long overdue.
Her red carpet walk is amid the screening of the restored version of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest). Simi played one of her most memorable roles in the film and is considered a gem of Indian cinema.
Now, after more than five decades, she makes a global comeback in a newly restored 4K version.
What makes this event even more special is the fact that the restoration of the film was led by acclaimed directors Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese, both known for their love and respect for classic world cinema. With their guidance and the support of the Heritage Foundation, Aranyer Din Ratri has been carefully restored for a new generation of viewers to discover.
Simi Garewal recently took to social media to share her excitement and a sneak peek of her preparations. In a video posted on May 12, she was seen selecting outfits and shared that her Cannes ensemble will be designed by Indian couture label Karleo.
In her caption, she wrote, “So she has eventually decided as to who will design her ensemble for the red carpet in Cannes!! It’s on 19th May, when they present her film with Satyajit Ray’s, ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’, restored by Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese and Heritage Foundation. Because she loves their aesthetics she has chosen karleofashion.
Often called The Lady in White for her iconic all-white fashion style, Simi has been a part of Indian cinema since the 1960s. She has delivered unforgettable performances in films like Do Badan, Mera Naam Joker, and Padatik. She later became a beloved talk show host and a household name with Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. Now, at Cannes 2025, she’s ready to shine once again, this time, on the global stage.
